Musings from the Volcano
On a journey towards Truth. Finding portals in current media, ancient texts, cumulative knowledge in Recovery rooms, historical poetry and architecture through the ages. We are fortunate to have different methods of sharing our insights, whether through study, intellectual discernment, Spiritual unfolding, rigorous and disciplined practice, we are trending in the direction of Truth. Qualities of Truth are easy to recognize, they are not subject to the opinions of those who utter them, they are Eternal (always constant), Consistent through time and space and often can be seen by each individual Universally. Gravity is a Truth, Theorems both theoretical and mathematical are Truth purveyors, Truth is relevant regardless of geopolitical standings. Truth is a practice. It is not a straight line forward. With diligence and perseverance we can cultivate behaviours and decisive actions in the direction of Truth.
I’m finding the more systems that I can relate to, systems that are stable, constant, and relative, give me a sense of identity. For example, if I know where polar, magnetic North is, it is given that with a compass, I can find my way almost anywhere. This gives me sense of being; Of knowing where I am relative to my surroundings. If I understand the molecular nature of the ground I’m standing on (in this case, glaciated volcanic land) I can understand how energetic currents move in the environment where I live, currently Tacoma, WA.
Some things to consider; Energy moves in several ways, thermal, kinetic, chemical. Energy has potential, has many characteristics and subject to the Law’s of Nature and described by Science. We know that magnetic lines never cross, we know energy can have direction, we know our inherent constitution has polarity, blood has a charge, bones have a charge, we are in a dynamic interaction with our surroundings. Energy can move as waves, as sound, as light, and results in work that can be measured. Sometimes it can be seen, sometimes not. Energy is a constant and is being continuously supplied from our sun in our current solar dynamic. Plants have cells that turn solar energy into usable, by creatures we’re related to, forms of energy, via chlorophyll, ATP and Kreb’s cycle. Plants have the ability to mitigate the extensive damage we do daily to our planet via our urban aesthetic. Our obsession with leaf blowers and straight edge everything is detrimental to our planets ability to heal. Nature trends in the direction of stability.
I’m a Yoga practitioner, yoga is a practice that deals with the movement of energy, and other things. Where we are affects the dynamics of our practice. We practice parinama, transformation, at every opportunity, with each posture, in increasing degrees of subtly. Practicing in Tacoma, WA is very different than practicing in New Orleans. Here in PNW there is a very rocky, earth crust, substrate. In New Orleans there is no rock, there is river sediment, flood plains, delta, soft ground. This difference is important because of how energy moves. Energy moves slowly in the South, whereas here in PNW it is very fast and refractive due to high iron content in the rocky ground. We are beings that conduct energy and are influenced by our dynamic surrounding environment.
There are many constants in nature/ Prakriti. What grows out of the ground can teach us a lot about where we live. I know that the ground/ substrate, has organic components that allow vegetation, this is different place to place. I know that where there are dandelions, there is sunlight. Dandelions have yellow flowers, yellow flowers are indicative of Sunlight. Where there are bracken ferns, there is always a fresh water source, where there is kelp, there is always a rocky bottom. This can be extrapolated in many directions. I’m learning that where there is yoga there can be a path to truth. There are patterns in nature that describe what we cannot see, they are repetitive and constant. Fractals can describe much of the natural worlds rhythmic repetitions, especially the Mandelbrot Set. Science is moving quickly but what I’m coming to realize is that new Science is describing what was already once known, we like to pin things down to an exact, to divide matter into smaller and smaller, and yet, ever smaller, and then to larger and larger scale and amplitude, to what end, I’m no longer certain. I believe we’re missing the point, we’ve lost our way. We don’t seem to be learning. Just counting. We seem obsessed with Insatiable Greed and Blinding Ignorance, terms from some ancient Texts (Upanishads) that ring especially true in todays construct.
Fact: Our planet is Heating. This has effects. We are obtuse to change. Change is happening. Our planet is changing. We are not changing. Chaos will happen. What happened during Covid? Migration patterns returned to traditional routes, Mumbai was covered in Flamingos. Birds plant seeds, seeds grow into many things. These growing things produce the air we need to breath and keep our planet earth relatively stable. One thing we can do on a daily basis is to plant something, anything at all, plants are healing for the earth, even the “invasive species”, they stabilize soil, change nutrients and mineral uptake (HUMANS ARE THE INVASIVE SPECIES, FYI), not plants, they’re just being plants. Let things grow. Stop with the crazy leaf blowing, let the insects nest, let stability in. Nature doesn’t exist in perfect boxes. Beauty doesn’t exist in straight lines. The edges are where things become interesting. Let things transform. Let your brain relax, put your phone down, watch something grow. Study energy patterns, wave dynamics, periodic trends, traditional messaging, semaphore communication, get upside down, cold plunge, seek understanding in diversity. Recognize the importance of community, and Stop making the mistake of insanely running in the direction/ and, or, needing for social relevance, chasing “likes” and “influence” in increasing and detrimental ways. We have the capacity to change this habit, to transform. Put your phone down. Get connected, again.
Off soapbox.
Godspeed.

Insurrection day of yore
I am a wild animal. I am a woman. I am strong and free. Our social norms or agreements want to create lemmings of us. I am not a lemming. I am a seeker of truth and knowledge. I am a student. A student of yoga first, a student of efficiency, of knowledge gathering and input systems. I’ve been in harness since age 13, I work hard, I’ve been of service most of my life. I experience capitalism as a mistake. Workers bearing the brunt and weight while being capitalized on by ownership. I see greed, pervasive and insidious. Spreading like wild brambles, unharnessed and fed. I see an unfolding separation from stewardship and integrity towards blinding ignorance and insatiable greed.
There is a solution. Pay attention. Get woke. Change. Practice. Keep going. spread stability, kindness, compassion, friendliness and hope/ faith. These are old solutions from ancient texts to modern problems. We are not the first generation having our current slough of problems. We’ve had dark ages before, plagues and political upheaval. We are resilient, capable of shape shifting and transformation, ages of rebirth and intellectual quantum leaps. We leave ourselves clues, in architecture, in stitching, hidden teachings and secretive societies. I don’t dabble in the dark corners, choosing the path of sunlight and transparency. A continuous and effortful journey towards truth.
I am a wild animal. I am a mammal. 52 million years in the making. Evolving alongside crows and volcanos.
